The May Deli Diary

So the sun has put his hat on and is definitely out to play!

Hope you are all enjoying the fab weather at the end of a very dull May. And what goodies does such weather demand ?

Well, it's hard to say as we have some really lovely foodie-goodies from all over!

Let's start with 'SUN' - in the yellow corner we have delicious honey from Richard Carter's apiary in Aslockton as well as Hickling Honey & Derbyshire honey. So that's the region covered. We have also decided to stock some super Vanilla Honey from the Peleponese as it's such a summery, delicious addition. With a rather lovely transluscence and a natural vanilla taste - we think this will be a bit of a gem. So do your bit for the bee's and get yourself some sun in a jar.

Onto the SEA...we may be a little land-locked here in Notts but that doesn't mean missing out on what it produces! As part of our tapas range we have thee most yummy anchovies - soft and succulent from Calabria and new, smoked fillets from the Aegean sea. Both are wonderful but the smoked fillets are gorgeous chopped and tossed in pasta with a little parmeggiano and some really, herby Olive oil. Or stick them on your pizza - a really lovely new product. Then we have a super, jar of mixed sea food from 'Le Conserve Toscane' - easy peasy, lemon squeezy dinner - just toss into you pasta or add to rice, with a twist of lemon & some Ali-Oli. Cor blimey....yes please!

We are great SALAD lovers @The Deli - and there isn't much wrong with a great Extra Virgin Olive oil as your only dressing ; just make sure it's a good one! Don't forget that we have an OLIVE OIL REFILL station in store and can let you taste most of the oils we stock. The Oro Balein we have (from Andalucia) at the mo is sooooo green and herby ; but if you prefer a lighter, creamier taste try our fairtrade Palestinian EVOO. Of course, alongside our EVOO we have 'Heart of Gold' Rapeseed oil from the Vale of Belvoir. Such a golden oil, with a slight nuttiness - always a good option for adding some health-wealth to your plate.

If you prefer something a bit creamier or hotter then you really must try the Mojo Verde picante - a gorgeous green & garlicky rich marinade from the Canaries - pour over prawns, chicken, quorn and grill ; DELISH!

One of our pic's shows our lovely Provencal vinegars - so concentrated that a few drops go a long way....and so fresh. Beautifully presented products that taste as good as they look we think - though you do have to choose between red pepper, tomato, mango & raspberry..life is full of hard choices!

So before we go we have to finish on Sangria - as we have some super red wines in stock - and we love a good glass of Sangria @The Deli ; although not too sweet and with a good drop of brandy! If you love all things Spanish and are in the mood for Paella then we have Saffron, bomba rice & paella spice mixes to make it an easy decision ; just add the fish or whatever you fancy.

So hope we have given you some inspiration for cooking and eating in the sun - but be quick with that BBQ!

Hope to see you at the shop or hear from you very soon, until then, fabulicious feeding, drinking and living.
